And don't worry Travis, they're back as booth 1257. Much closer to the central main-thoroughfare than I would have expected.

GenCon 2011 is right around the corner!
So here's a couple of resources to help prep yourself for some gaming madness:
1 - First, MadBrew Labs has put together an interactive map of the dealer hall, so you can check the websites of the folks who want to sell you their stuff, to see what stuff they want to sell you. (Just zoom out with the mouse wheel and hover over the booths to see what's going to be there).
And don't worry Travis, they're back as booth 1257. Much closer to the central main-thoroughfare than I would have expected.

Bugman's Best and Saves vs. Death
So usually I do a 2-hour stint of OD&D Tower of Gygax DMing at GenCon, but this year I somehow forgot to check the yahoo group that schedules it and I missed my window, so no running Tower of Gygax at GenCon for me this year. However, to allieviate my need to declare "SAVE OR DIE!" at least three times a year, I decided to delay continuing our regular Warhammer RP game and put my players through some of the old OD&D Tower of Gygax rooms I still had leftover from yesteryear. For this one-shot game of OD&D, I included the option to buy an "explorer's kit" for a paltry 15gp from the local tavern owner/ex-adventurer Mung the Befuddler, and it contained a list of things like rope, candles, hammer and pitons, etc. in an apparent attempt to speed up the equipment selection portion character generation (as they would be making multiple characters throughout the session). Mung also threw in one sealed pint of Bugman's Best Stout into every explorer's kit (yes that's a Warhammer reference and we were playing OD&D, but whatever).

Roll a D6
I had to share this with some fellow nerds.
Oh, and in my Dark Heresy game, my players are facing a Khorne Berserker. When we paused the game last time he's yelling 'MY LOVE IS LIKE TICKING CLOCK!"

Tournament Report: Warhammer 40k action in California (Complete)
This past weekend, I made it up to Black Diamond Games, in Concord, CA, for a little RTT action. Reecius was going to be running this one, so I knew a couple things going in: 1) I wouldn"t have to face his nasty Space Puppies; and 2) missions were going to be straight out of the rulebook. As has been my habit for about the past year or so, I was going to take Tyranids; a variation on one of my standard lists seemed appropriate.

Bugman's Best
As a gamer and a homebrewer, I enjoy reading about how beer/spirits work their way into the gaming world. My favorite type of fantasy character to play are dwarves, and I enjoy reading about dwarves in Dragonlance, or Warhammer, or just good ole Forgotten Realms (Bruenor Battlehammer).

Well, in the Warhammer books, there are constant references to a master brewer Joseph Bugman, who makes the best beer in the world, which he calls Bugman's Best.
So the question is: What kind of beer is Bugman's Best. And more importantly, could I recreate it?

Gathering Storm: A Time to Mourn
Necromancers? Diseased townsfolk? Myserious Mages? Drunk Dwarves?
It must be Warhammer night!
In our last few sessions (not posted) the PCs attended the trial of the Holtz family and Kiela Cobblepot, nefarious kidnappers and murderers of Stromdorf. After being attacked that night by the newly-risen undead corpses of the convicted (and hung) defendants, Burgomeister Alder finally requested an audience with the party.
Seems there must be a Necromancer about, what with zombies marching right into town and all. So the burgomeister asked the party to go get Brother Grabbe, the nearby graveyard caretaker and local Priest of Morr.

CabinCon10.2 Presents: Night of the Walking Dead
Night begins to settle over the swamp, cloaking the dense undergrowth in darkness and turning the water's surface to black. With it comes a clinging, creeping fog, rising from the water like a spectral steam. The fog surrounds you, its dampness caressing you like cold, dead hands. The swamp seems to retreat from the mists, its sights and sounds disappearing into some unseen distance. All that remains visible is the cold, choking fog. Even your companions seem far away. For a moment, everything is quiet. What few sounds you can hear are amplified by the surrounding mists: your own breathing, your beating heart. Then the fog begins to dissipate, fading away as quickly as it appeared, leaving you and your companions alone in the dismal swamp. A sign sticks crookedly from the mire, reading “Marais D’Tarascon, 5 miles” and pointing down the swampy river.
