VCP: Alex Kammer

Today on the Vorpal Chainsword Podcast, we talk to the Warrior King of Gamehole Con himself:
Alex Kammer!

At his heart, Alex is a Gamer. Even more than that, Alex is a Gamer Cleric, who strives to bring the True Light™ of tabletop gaming to the masses.  About two years ago (by Dale Reckoning) Alex and his hearty crew of Gamehole ne’er-do-wells decided to take their gaming and business expertise and launch a gaming convention in the Midwest the likes of which must be experienced to be believed. Gamehole Con burst onto the RPG convention scene in 2013 and right from the start showed what a top-notch tabletop-focused gaming convention should be about. Between the impressive guests, the fantastic games line-up, and the incredibly friendly volunteers and organizers, Gamehole Con is THE gaming convention for anyone who gets excited by the idea of discovering a Longsword+1 (+3 vs. Undead) in an Ogre's treasure hoard. Check it out!

Games I'd like to play

There's a thing about pen-and-paper RPGs -- They take A LOT OF TIME to play. Even a one-shot convention game is going to take 4 hours to complete, and that's if the DM has his shit together. (My one-shots usually take about 6 hours for the party to complete, because I do not.) When you are a teenager this amount of time doesn't really matter, because after school the alternative to gaming is staying at home and talking to your parents or doing chores (or play sportsball, but who wants to do that?) Neither of which are going to be able to compete with playing RPGs with your friends in the fun department.
Ah, those were the days. All the time in the world.

However as adults we somehow have less time on our hands, even if we valiantly attempt to shirk our other responsibilities as much as humanly possible. So when we get to play RPGs we don't like to have our time wasted, and therefore end up playing the same RPG system over and over. Because why risk learning/teaching/trying some new RPG system you bought as a PDF when its already 7:30pm by the time everyone arrived and you need to be home by 9:30pm?

"What? You've got to go already? But we only just finished rolling stats... yeah, I guess I should get home too..."

Witcher'd

Witcher 3 is out! Holy crap is Witcher 3 good. Also Holy Crap does it take every ounce of all four fans running in the ol' Steambox at full blast to keep the GPU from melting after two minutes of swordfighting wolves.

Walking around the swamp = 60 fps (beautiful!)

Fight a giant monster = ~33 fps (no problem)
Fight a pack of wolves = 1-2 fps (probably going to die)
But still. Its worth it. For Temeria!

VCP: Vince DiCola and Kenny Meriedeth!

Ever wonder where the best prog rock music for movies and video games comes from? Well, I'm here to tell you, its from these guys! Vince himself already has a bit of a cult following among Transformers: The Movie enthusiasts, as he composed the fantastic soundtrack to that excellent film, and occasionally visits BotCon at the behest of fans. He also is responsible for the awesomeness of the Rocky IV soundtrack, including that purest paragon of perfect montage music, the Training Montage

Furthermore, these two guys crafted the music for a lesser-known karate fighting movie from 2004: Sci-Fighter, all released on Vince's Falling off a Clef album, and which I often use as epic background music for my own D&D games (and highly recommend)! Vince and Kenny have also been rocking some video game soundtracks lately, with their two most recent releases being the rockin' soundtracks for Saturday Morning RPG and Angry Birds:Transformers!

Prepare your ears to learn the secrets of the musical fight-masters!
Check it all out on the Vorpal Chainsword Podcast!

Time Travel!

Whoa! I know you aren't going to believe this, but I just traveled in time! That's right, just after my last post on April 25, 2015, I got a call from my buddy Doc who wanted me to come down to Twin Pines Mall and film him testing out his new Time Machine. Of course I agreed and headed on over. But the next thing I knew we were running from Libyan terrorists, had an amazing adventure through time, and ended up two weeks into the future!
