One Console to Rule Them All

In honor of the first 2014 Summer Steam Sale coming to a close, I've decided to do a post on a recent project I completed (with major props to Kevin Brown on the Nvidia tech advice):

Building The One Console to Rule Them All.

ScanCON 2014

So another ScanCON comes to a close.  Before whiskey and old age steals my memories of this year's gaming exploits, I figured I'd post some highlights here for posterity.

ScanCON 2014

Happy Valentines Day to that special gamer in your life

Cthulhu Ftaghn

Finally painted the glorious Cthulhu with all the paints Mary got me for Christmas.  It was surprisingly easy to make this guy look game-ready, which mostly has to do with how good the model is sculpted in the first place.  So if you've got one (from the Reaper minis Kickstarter) don't be afraid to start on him yourself. He was basically 90% drybrushing, 8% washes and only 2% actual detail painting.  Oh, and about a half a can of black primer.  Here's some pics:

Skirmish Saturday

Its Skirmish Saturday at the Vorpal Chainsword!

I convinced Mary to help me test out a game of Strange Aeons, a miniature skirmish game based around the Cthulhu Mythos.  We played the introductory quickstart scenario, available here.  Strange Aeons is a 1930s pulp minis game that pits government X-files agents ("Threshold", which we immediately renamed "Fringe") against cultists and their eldritch allies ("Lurkers").  I was able to convince Mary to play by telling her she got to play the Fringe agents.

Terrain Baby!

I think its safe to say that I'm a wargamer at heart, rather than a roleplayer.  That's not to say that I've actually played a wargame in over five years, but instead to say that I just seem to spend more time painting miniatures and creating terrain than I do actually preparing adventures for my game group. In fact, I don't think I've actually played Warhammer since 2007.

That said, I've finally finished painting all my Dungeon Tiles terrain from the very successful Dwarven Forge Kickstarter (that I dropped way too much money on), and I figured I'd upload a few pics.

Riders of Rohan, enter the dungeon!

GameHoleCon. Better than GenCon. There I said it.

Its Sunday here at GameHoleCon and I have already endured two solid days of gaming majesty, with another game yet on the horizon in a few hours.  In the meantime, let me give you a run down about how epic this convention has been here in Madison, WI.
